CHAMPIONS DAY CINEMATOGRAPHY
CURRENT PROBLEM
PACE is gearing up to produce a short film to serve as the foundation of their $15 million capital campaign to build an indoor sports complex in Omaha. To tell the best story possible, PACE needs powerful, moving motion pictures of the children they serve playing baseball, soccer, and flag football. The baseball season at PACE ends on Saturday, August 1st, and there’s only 1 chance to get the baseball footage they need. Their current footage is outdated and the other footage they have is in the possession of a police officer who does videography as a hobby - PACE has been unable to obtain the footage from him.
In order to have the best short film possible for their capital campaign, PACE needs to get new footage of kids playing baseball.
OBJECTIVE
Capture powerful, moving, cinematic footage of kids of varying age groups playing baseball on Champions Day.
Capture epic, timeless footage of iconic images of baseball - home plate, the scoreboard, the American flag waving behind a chain link fence, the outfield grass undulating in the breeze, the grandstands, the dugout, a worn baseball resting in the dirt on the pitcher’s mound…
This footage, when included in the final video, will create a powerful emotional reaction in the viewer. Brad Pitt says it best in MONEYBALL, “How can you not be romantic about baseball?”
Build a fully stocked library of footage that’s timeless, epic, cinematic and moving - footage PACE can use for years to come for all of their marketing, fundraising, and social media needs.
Continue to capture the history and legacy of PACE with motion pictures.
OPTION 1 | EPIC
Midland Pictures will focus on creating motion pictures that are epic, powerful, moving, and cinematic mixed with documentary-style handheld motion pictures to give the story we’ll tell realism and authenticity. Aerial cinematography will give the audience a sense of the grandeur and power of the sport of baseball - a bird’s eye view that shows them all the kids, the coaches, the parents, the brothers and sisters whose lives have been deeply affected by the efforts of everyone at PACE. And to see that within the context of South Omaha - a literal diamond in the rough - aerial videography gives the viewer a sense of how big something is … and how much bigger it could be.
Key features of this option include:
Powerful motion pictures of the baseball field BEFORE the kids arrive - the sun rising against the scoreboard, the grass wafting in the breeze, a baseball resting on the pitcher’s mound, the freshly painted foul lines in the outfield, the empty grandstand, the American flag waving in the morning light - these images will set the stage and establish the fields where so many kids’ lives have been impacted by PACE and the power of baseball.
Drone / Aerial Cinematography
Location Sound - the CRACK of the bat, the CHEERS of the crowd, a fastball SMACKING the catcher’s mitt, the ump YELLING “Strike three!” - these sounds will underscore the story we tell in order to transport the viewer right to the baseball field, making them feel like they’re right there in the middle of all the action. You might not think this extra audio makes that much of a difference in the final video but it does - sound breathes life into a piece, giving it soul and dimension - hiring a sound recordist to focus on getting the real sounds of a PACE baseball game will “next level” the final film we create.
Key benefits of this option include:
You get the widest spectrum of motion pictures for your footage library - what social media and marketing content can you create with Aerial, Cinematic, and Documentary-style footage?
Because we’re filming baseball BEFORE we’ve designed your film, this option makes sure all of our bases are covered - we have all the types of footage we may need for the finished video. Whereas if we only shoot Documentary-style, we may feel after it’s too late that we really needed Aerial or Cinematic footage to not only tell this story but deliver the emotional impact we need to get potential donors to respond to your call to action and donate.
Below is a video we produced with Brookside Church - it was one of two videos that were the centerpiece of a $2 million capital campaign to raise funds to renovate a new church location in Elkhorn and start an all-new Hispanic service at their main location. Their capital campaign was successful - they hit their goal and then exceeded it, raising nearly $2.5 million.

OPTION 2 | CINEMATIC
Midland Pictures will focus on creating motion pictures that are powerful and cinematic mixed with documentary-style handheld motion pictures to give the story we’ll tell realism and authenticity. We’ll focus our time in the morning getting iconic images of the baseball field similar to what you saw of the interiors of the church in the above video in order to give it that extra touch of cinematic awesomeness.

Because we’re filming baseball BEFORE we’ve designed your film, this option gives us a good amount of styles of footage to work with to craft the impactful, emotional story you need to make your potential donors HAPPY to help your organization.
Below is a video we produced for Baldwin Toys in association with the Omaha Summer Arts Festival. This video embodies Authenticity while combining a handheld Documentary-style with wide, cinematic shots of Steve at work in his space.
BALDWIN TOYS
OPTION 3 | AUTHENTIC
Midland Pictures will focus on creating documentary-style motion pictures to give the story we’ll tell realism and authenticity. We’ll focus our time on just the kids playing baseball getting simple but effective coverage of what’s happening on the field and in the stands.
Key features of this option include:
The documentary style footage feels realistic and straight-forward - there’s nothing heightened or exaggerated about it - it’s just the nitty gritty footage you need to show what happens at PACE.
Key benefits of this option include:
Least expensive option
Keeps the filmmakers’ presence at Champions’ Day to a minimum - a crew of only one. We won’t be using any specialized equipment like a drone, a camera dolly, etc.
Below is a video we produced for Brookside Church to profile the patriarch of a Hispanic family that will be attending Brookside’s all-new Spanish-language Sunday service. This video was a core component of their $2 million capital campaign.
